The Hell's Kitchen Greens have been working hard to link with various organizations in the Clinton/Hell's Kitchen neighborhood. We already have a seat at the table with the "Stadium Working Group"--a coalition of organizations and political leaders scattered along the west side of Manhattan. These groups differ ideologically, but are united in their opposition to the proposed NY Jet's stadium. As Greens, we have been primarily focused on the huge rip-off that such a plan would allow.

On February 13th, 2001, we had a teach-in on the proposed stadium/ development for the west 30s at St. Clements Church, which featured John Fisher of the Clinton Special District Coalition. The CSDC is an activist organization fighting over-develpment and gentrification in Hell's Kitchen. John laid out the history of development on the west side, and offered some possible scenarios for the future.

At the NYC Greens meeting, the treasurer of our local, Todd Lester, was voted in as treasurer for the NYC Greens. Way to go Todd!!

Other issues and endeavors we are currently working on:

  1. Outreach to grow the local
  2. Pesticide sunset legislation
  3. Fight to save progressive radio, WBAI (99.5 fm)
  4. Our own e-mail newsletter
We are planning to get a table to bring to light the above issues, and raise our visibility in the neighborhood during the 9th Avenue Food Fair on the weekend of May 19th and 20th. As we get more information about the fair, we will most certainly post it here.

We are a small local and would love to have your input. If you live in or near Hell's Kitchen and would like to be involved in the Hell's Kitchen Greens, please don't hesitate to call or e-mail the contact listed above.
